VICKY MITCHELL

Vicky Mitchell has been teaching at St. Francis Catholic School in Quincy for the last 37 years.  She was a 5th grade teacher for 34 years, but presently teaches 6th grade and physical education.

Over the years she has had so many hilarious moments in the classroom, in the teacher's lounge, in church, and on playground duty that she felt she had to write a book so her stories could make people laugh.

She wrote Prisoner in Room 12:  Confessions of a Catholic School Teacher to share her experiences.  The book is arranged in chapters with titles such as: "Classroom Pets and Other Disasters," "The Fun Side of Religion," "The Joy of Sex Education," and "Short Takes From Room 12."  The book is currently available in e-book format on Amazon.com

Vicky has sold many copies of her book and received many positive reviews.  She has had emails from people telling her that they laughed out loud at her stories and are waiting for the next edition.

Vicky lives in Quincy, IL with her husband, Dick. They have been married for 38 years.   She has two grown children, Angie and Bob, and two adorable grandchildren, Ella and Zayne.  In addition to writing, Vicky enjoys digital photography, painting lighted wine bottles, computer activities, travel, songwriting, guitar,  and family outings. She spends a LOT of time downloading and reading books on her Kindle.  She won't go anywhere without it!

In the past, she has been involved in Cursillo, Teens Encounter Christ, Quest, and prison ministry. She is very active in her church and plays her 12 string guitar at the kids' masses for school and at church on weekends.  She also has a professionally made CD of her original Christian songs.

Vicky formerly served as president of the Quincy Writers Guild.
